A Summer Day Out And Strawberry Picking Experience By The Switch Adelaide Residents
Summer weekends are meant for enjoying the sunshine, exploring new places and indulging in delicious treats. So, last Saturday a group of 20 residents and staff from The Switch Adelaide Central visited Hahndorf, a German village in the beautiful Adelaide Hills in South Australia.
The day was filled with strawberry picking, a delicious lunch, coffee, and ice-cream, and exploring the local cafes, chocolate shops, ice-cream and fudge shops, and a local museum and German clock shops.
We started our day early in the morning and took the Adelaide Metro to the Beerenberg Strawberry Farm (180 years old farm), located in the Adelaide Hills. The farm is known for its fresh and juicy strawberries and gams that are grown locally. The residents were very excited to pick their own strawberries, and it was a fun experience for all. The strawberry fields were vast, and we were provided with baskets to collect the fruit. The aroma of fresh strawberries filled the air, and we could not resist taking a bite of these sweet treats. We spent a few good hours picking and munching on strawberries before heading to our next stop in the village for lunch.
Next, we walked to the famous Haus German restaurant in Hanhdorf. The restaurant is known for its traditional German dishes such as sausages, schnitzels, and sauerkraut. We ordered a variety of dishes and shared them amongst ourselves. The food was delicious, and we enjoyed the lively ambiance of the restaurant. We also tried some local German beer and wine, which was a perfect accompaniment to our meal.
After our delicious lunch, we decided to explore the village and stopped at local cafes for some coffee and ice-cream. We visited a few local chocolate shops and indulged in some delicious chocolates. We also visited a German clock shop, which was filled with beautiful handmade cuckoo clocks. The intricate designs and the delicate workmanship were impressive, and we couldn’t resist buying a few souvenirs.
Then we visited the local museum and wine centre and stopped at this aromatic local candle shop. As the day came to an end, we headed back to The Switch, tired but content from a day filled with fun, laughter, and indulgence. It was a perfect summer day out, and we made some beautiful memories with our residents and most importantly our residents made some new friends.
