In today’s world, where sustainability and charity work have become increasingly important, The Switch is making contributions through a variety of local charity and sustainability programs. With locations in Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne, The Switch is not only a place for residents to live but also a platform for making a positive impact on the community and environment.
Engagement with ‘People Who Care’ in Perth
Our General Manager in Perth, Tara Holst, and her team, have taken a significant step forward by donating various items to ‘People Who Care’. This local charity is dedicated to assisting families who are facing hardship after a domestic crisis. The donations, which include brand-new iron boards, kettles, and bins, have amounted to nearly $2,000 in value. This initiative shows our commitment to helping those in crisis transform a house into a home. The contributions reflect a deep understanding of the importance of community support in times of need.
More about this initiative can be found on their website: People Who Care.
Clothing Donation to H&M’s ‘Closing the Loop’ Program
To promote sustainability, we also engage donations of leftover clothes from its residents to H&M’s ‘Closing the Loop’ program. This program focuses on recycling textiles to create a more sustainable fashion future. The initiative not only reduces waste but also supports the recycling of textiles, contributing to a circular economy.
Details on the ‘Closing the Loop’ program can be accessed here: H&M Sustainability.
Support for Red Nose Charity in Adelaide
Our general manager, Belinda and her team in Adelaide have chosen to support the Red Nose Charity by regularly donating items such as clothes, shoes, bedding, electrical items, homewares, and accessories. Donations from the students and staff are collected weekly and sent to Red Nose charity shops. The proceeds from these donations aid the Red Nose charity in its mission to save little lives and support families. This initiative is especially valued at check-out, offering international students a way to donate items they can’t take home.
More information on Red Nose Charity can be found on their website: Red Nose.
Partnership with Diabetes Australia in Melbourne
Expanding its reach and impact, Ben Marsh, our general manager at The Switch Melbourne has established a meaningful partnership with Diabetes Australia, further exemplifying its commitment to community support and environmental sustainability. This collaboration encourages residents to contribute a variety of items, supporting a great cause while also promoting recycling and reusability.
Every two weeks, Diabetes Australia collects a 660L bin of donated items like clothes, shoes, electronics, and furniture. This initiative helps declutter and supports Diabetes Australia’s research, education, and services for those affected by diabetes.

Impact and Future Goals
Our contributions to these charities are more than just donations; they represent a commitment to making a difference in the lives of people and the health of the planet. By donating items that are no longer needed but still in good condition, We help to reduce waste, support individuals in need, and promote sustainability. These efforts not only benefit the immediate recipients but also set a precedent for corporate responsibility towards community and environmental well-being.
We aim to increase our donations and support, reinforcing our commitment as a community-aware and eco-responsible organisation. We try to demonstrate that businesses can drive positive change and serve as an inspiring model for others.
